School History

The history of The Cathedral Grammar School is very much entwined in the history of Christchurch.

The first published history of the school was Ex Cathedra written in the lead-up to the school's centenary in 1981. A more complete and reliable history - Julilate! - was written by former headmaster Rev Roger Couper for the school's 125th celebration in 2006.

Each year, pupils in Years 6 - 8 compete in the Knowledge of School History competition.  A summary of the information in the above two references is available here for pupils and parents to consult but reading of Jubilate! is recommended.  The book is available from the school library and the Christchurch Public Library, and a copy is given to each new pupil upon enrolment.
