Warren Durant - Teacher Year 4B

I graduated from Natal University (Durban Campus) in 1995, with a Bachelor of Primary Education Degree. My first teaching position was in a small country school located on the outskirts of Durban. I was then appointed a position at Michaelhouse, an Independent Boarding School for boys, located in the Natal Midlands. In 2000, Jill and I relocated to Sandton in Johannesburg where I taught for 9 years at Crawford Preparatory School, a co-educational school focusing on the pursuit of academic excellence. My position was that of a Mathematics and Science and Technology specialist teacher, teaching Year 4 and 5 students. In 2003, I graduated from The University of the Witwatersarand with a Bachelor of Education degree (with Honours) majoring in Education Leadership.

Swimming has been my chosen sport, where I competed at the South African trials for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In the same year I represented South Africa against a visiting team from Austria. I also completed the English Channel Team Swim in 2000 with a group of young teenage swimmers that I coached and mentored. We were awarded The John Bullet Trophy for being the youngest international team to successfully complete the feat in 2000. More recently I have been actively involved in Open Water long distance swimming, with the focus to raise much needed funds for children suffering from cancer. I am also a provincial representative in waterpolo and biathlon. I am a keen supporter of the Sharks Super 15 Rugby Team. My hobbies include rose gardening and fly-fishing. I have two sons, named Matthew (10) and Joshua (5), both whom attend school at Cathedral Grammar.

I try surround myself with people who are positive and are problem solvers, rather than problem seekers. My goal in teaching is to motivate and nurture every child, in order to reach their full potential through the pursuit of academic and sporting excellence.
